Maisonette 1977 : Rock and roll girls
Rubberized cottons, tie-dyed faux furs, and heavy metal inspired hardware in a palette of dark neutrals, metallics and reds gave serious rock and roll attitude to the Maisonette 1977 Fall 2011 Collection for a young, tough, party girl vibe that was a refreshing change among the many ladylike collections seen at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.
Other elements of the collection included heat-pressed "crocodile" woven details on jackets with laser-cut edges, engineered wax-twill pants with multiple zippers, and silk charmeuse or lamé mini dresses with slashed sleeves.
Walking through the presentation it was impossible not to imagine the looks fitting in perfectly at The Viper Room, or The Dragonfly, or any down-and-dirty rock club from Los Angeles, to Manhattan.
All of this urban edge felt like a bit of a departure for Maisonette designer Jane Ibrahim, who last season showed a quirky 60's sci-fi inspired collection that was as light and playful in attitude.
Nonetheless, the Fall 2011 pieces were so well executed, and the collection so perfectly edited it was clear that Ibrahim was completely at home with her wilder, tougher muse.
On the West Coast Maisonette 1977 is currently available only at these Southern California Stores; to shop the collection online, or for more information about the designer visit the official website.
