New Releases: Florence + The Machine

 Florence Walsh

Already a darling of the Brit-pop press, Florence Welch (A.K.A. Florence+the Machine) is a spritely red head hailing from London, England whose searing vocals and infectious rhythms are starting to get her noticed.

Her new album, Lungs, is according to Florence on her official website “made of harps, choirs, drums, elevator shafts, bits of metal, love, death, fireworks, string quartets, stamping, sighing, strange electronic wailing, lambs, lions, sick, broken glass, blood, moon, stars, drink, coffins, teeth, water, wedding dresses... and the silences in between...”

This album is one that sounds vaguely familiar (it reminds me of Björks’ first solo album, Debut) yet still refreshingly different. With fantastic vocals, solid production, and talented group of musicians to back her up, this album will strike a chord with many.

The album is a mix of old and new material, including her new single Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up). Rabbit is an upbeat offering that sits nicely alongside tracks like Howl and Drumming Song. Other sides of her personality come across in songs like Kiss with a Fist and Cosmic Love which results in an album of eclectic music styles.

Florence’s album ‘Lungs’ is due to drop in the UK and via iTunes on July 6th and the physical US release date is currently slated for October 13th on Island Records.

For more information check out her official home page or her myspace site for a further sampling of her songs.
